Well, Would You Look at That?

I recently fell down a completely unexpected rabbit hole: Pythagorean numerology.

Not because I was searching for my destiny. Not because I suddenly believe numbers are secretly controlling my life. I was simply curious.

And curiosity has a way of taking me places.

Using my birth name, I started calculating the numbers traditionally associated with different parts of a person’s life and personality.

My Expression Number came out 9 — associated with contribution, compassion and using life experience to help others.

My Personality Number is 5 — curiosity, communication, freedom and exploration.

My Life Path is 7 — the seeker, the questioner, the person who wants to look underneath things and understand them.

Interesting.

Then came the number 4.

My Soul Urge Number is 4. In numerology, 4 is associated with building, structure, foundations and turning ideas into something tangible.

Then I discovered that I’m currently in my Fourth Pinnacle — also a 4.

And that’s when I started laughing.

Because long before I knew any of this, I chose a name that has become part of my identity:

RIO4LIFE.

There sits that 4.

Did I unknowingly choose it because of some mystical numerical force?

I seriously doubt it. 😂

But well, would you look at that?

And the whole experience reminded me of teenage Kim.

The Book Nobody Was Allowed to Read

Sometime around 1979, I read Linda Goodman’s Sun Signs.

I’m an Aquarius, so naturally I read the Aquarius section.

Big mistake.

That woman apparently knew WAY too much about me.

The good characteristics were fine. The less flattering ones? Not so much.

My teenage solution was perfectly logical:

I hid the book in the school library.

I didn’t take it home.

I didn’t throw it away.

I hid a library book inside the library so other people couldn’t read about Aquarius and somehow discover all my secrets.

😂

Nearly five decades later, I’m doing something very similar—but my reaction has changed.

When a numerology description sounds remarkably familiar, I don’t need to hide the evidence.

I can simply be curious about it.

It Doesn’t Have to Mean Something

That’s probably what I’ve enjoyed most about this little experiment.

Every coincidence doesn’t need an explanation.

I don’t need to decide whether something is fate, destiny, chance, psychology, pattern recognition—or simply a bunch of numbers that happened to line up in an entertaining way.

Sometimes life hands us a connection that makes us stop for a second and think:

Huh. That’s interesting.

And maybe that’s enough.

My Soul Urge is 4.

My Fourth Pinnacle is 4.

And somehow, years before knowing either one, I put a 4 right in the middle of RIO4LIFE.

I’m not reorganizing my life around it.

But I’m definitely going to enjoy the coincidence.

Because sometimes we don’t need to explain the little connections we discover.

Sometimes we can just smile and say—

Well, would you look at that.
